Nora Helmer, the character who famously slammed the door on her family at the end of Henrik Ibsen’s 1879 play A Doll’s House, has returned. Lucas Hnath’s irreverent sequel to Ibsen’s celebrated drama explores what happened to Nora after she left her husband and children, and imagines how they receive her upon returning home fifteen years later. This invigorating play-about-a-play examines the complexities and boundaries of that one thing that Nora, like most of us, can leave behind but never fully divest ourselves of: family.
