Skokie resident Rachel Sypniewski is a very busy costume designer. Her latest projects included designing costumes for the world premiere of “Plainclothes” by Spenser Davis for Broken Nose Theatre (www.brokennosetheatre.com) and “The Book of Merman” by Leo Schwartz and DC Cathro for Flying Elephant Productions (www.stage773.com).

‘Before Sunrise’ English Translation debuts in Harbach Theatre

As national midterm elections approach, divisive communication between political parties is increasingly prevalent across American society; the first mainstage theater production of the year addresses the instances through which relations of all types become tainted. The play “Before Sunrise” was written in German by Austrian playwright Ewald Palmetshofer. Professor of Theatre and director Neil Blackadder decided to translate the show for Knox students to perform, much to the delight of Palmetshofer. Although Palmetshofer was influenced by the nature of European politics in his writings, he believes the themes of his play are also applicable to political divisions forming within the United States.

'Before Sunrise' Premieres at Harbach

Knox College will stage the world premiere of Professor of Theatre Neil Blackadder’s translation of Before Sunrise on Wednesday through Saturday, October 24-27. The work, by German playwright Ewald Palmetshofer, will be performed at Harbach Theatre in the Ford Center for the Fine Arts.

In preparation for his production of Tennessee Williams’ memory play “The Glass Menagerie,” Studio Theatre Associate Professor of Theatre Jeff Grace spent Fall Term researching the playwright’s life. Grace spent Fall Term in Williams’ hometown of St. Louis, visiting places immortalized in his work.
