‘The Glass Menagerie’ explores memory

In preparation for his production of Tennessee Williams’ memory play “The Glass Menagerie,” Studio Theatre Associate Professor of Theatre Jeff Grace spent Fall Term researching the playwright’s life. Grace spent Fall Term in Williams’ hometown of St. Louis, visiting places immortalized in his work.

‘Learning Plays’ straddles the line between real and surreal

After the Knox Theatre Department decided to cancel its mainstage production of “The Good Person of Szechwan” over concerns voiced by students, Professor of Theatre Neil Blackadder was still determined to produce a Bertolt Brecht play. Blackadder was drawn to the ensemble aspect and minimalism of “Learning Plays.” With the last minute cancellation of “Good Person,” the department sought a show that could be designed in a short amount of time while still doing it justice.

Knox College Theatre presents "The Learning Plays" by Bertolt Brecht, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 24, in Harbach Theatre, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. Theatre continues Brecht plays discussion

Last week, the Theatre Department brought in Stefan Brun, an experienced Chicago theatre director and expert on playwright Bertolt Brecht to have a discussion on how Brecht’s work should be approached. Brecht has been a recent focus of the department with the upcoming “Learning Plays,” a main stage production of many of Brecht’s shorter works, which replaced the cancelled production of his play “The Good Person of Szechwan.”
